Kate Middleton chose vintage inspired jewelry for baby Charlotte’s christening event for on July 5, 2015. The royal couple is simply smashing and I love Kate even more now that I know that she loves to mix old/vintage inspired and new. Why did Kate want to blend old with new? By mixing vintage details it was a way to celebrate and recognize other family members, pay a nod to traditions, British heritage and reflect her own personal style. Here’s a rundown of her details:
Dress: Alexander McQueen, bespoke cream coat dress
Hat: 1950s inspired beret with floral detail
Hair: Retro style loose bun
Shoes: simple, matching pumps
Jewelry: 1920s inspired earrings and related necklace
The earrings and necklace are truly magnificent and are a terrific example of making vintage more modern by wearing it back to a modern clean dress like the McQueen. Designed by Mappin & Webb Jewellry, the earrings were inspired by an original design from the 1920s and “re-imagined” for the modern royal couple with a cost of $8,100. Her choice of jewelry plays back beautifully to her dress, is very feminine and evokes a bit of the past and really helps pull the whole together.
If you are intrigued by this beautiful jewelry but don’t want spend $8,000 I have some wonderful. similar earrings in the store. Here are some possibilities:
All earrings are vintage costume jewelry with rhinestones and faux pearls and were selected because they were similar to Kate’s in look or vibe. Click on the photo to get more details on each of these earrings.
