I recently saw the Jacques Demy film Model Shop on a big screen here in LA. I had never heard of the film and thoroughly enjoyed the backdrop of Los Angeles in 1969! The female lead is the mysterious woman in white, Lola, played by French actress Anouck Aimee. In most of her appearance in the film she is wearing a classic cut, white sheath dress with a v-neck. The look is very late 60s/early 70s glamour with her hair in an up do, a sheer white scarf wrapped effortlessly around her head, and oversized, dark sunglasses. Driving in a large, white, American made convertible car makes her look especially intriguing! On a jewelry note, her costume is simply accessorized with a brooch placed at the décolletage. This is a great example wearing a brooch in a chic way! She does not wear any earrings or any other type of jewelry allowing the brooch to be the focal point of her white ensemble! Now, you can get this look with any V-neck dress or blouse. I prefer a solid color, but you might have a print or floral dress that will work well, so go for it! You will need to make sure that the jewel you select will sit well on the blouse. For example, if your blouse is sheer and delicate, select a small brooch or even a clip earring as the jeweled embellishment. If your fabric is mid to heavy weight you can go with a larger or heavier brooch. Here are a few photos from the film and some suggestions from the Susan Jane store for brooches. You might already have something in your jewelry box, so take a look and play a little with your options.
